US 60 begins at the Atlantic Ocean in Virginia Beach and heads northwest to Virginia's capital, Richmond. The route continues west to West Virginia, passing through the capital, Charleston, and into Kentucky where it passes through Lexington, Frankfort, and Louisville. US 60 then follows Kentucky's northern border to Illinois, passing through the southern tip of the state after crossing the Ohio River and before crossing the Mississippi River. It heads west across southern Missouri to Oklahoma where it continues west to Texas. After heading southwest across the Texas panhandle and through Amarillo, the route heads west across New Mexico and into Arizona. US 60 winds its way west across Arizona, passing through Phoenix before ending a few miles east of the California border.

We traveled US 60 from end to end in August 2021, taking these photographs along the way.
