We took a trip on the Raritan Valley Line on 30 December 2009. We rode from High Bridge to Newark Penn Station and back. We arrived in High Bridge early, found the station, and then went out to eat lunch. When we returned our train was waiting at the station but still not available for boarding so we spent some time looking around the old abandoned station building. We found the ride to Newark enjoyable, and were struck by the size of the right of way for most of the trip. Clearly this was a heavily travelled route at one time. Once in Newark we spent some time exploring, took some photos (including one of a nice old gentleman in a wheelchair who wanted his picture taken), and had a bite to eat. We then headed back up to the platform where we found our train waiting, boarded, and settled in for the ride back to High Bridge. As we approached the last few stations on the line, the conductor came through and told a few of us we'd need to move toward the back of the train since most doors would not open at the last few stops. When we arrived in High Bridge we found an open door and ended our Raritan Valley Line trip.
