We waited until the end of summer before going for a ride on the Montauk Branch, riding from Montauk to Babylon on 19 September 2009. As expected this greatly reduced the amount of traffic encountered on the drive out to Montauk. It was a bright sunny day and we took some time to have some lunch, walk around town, and take a stroll on the beach before catching our train. We rode the first train from Montauk to Patchogue where we changed trains. Our train from Patchogue made all stops to Babylon. We ended our journey in Babylon, taking only a one way train ride. Of course some Montauk trains continue up the Central Branch and then through Hicksville. While we didn’t continue beyond Babylon on this trip, we did ride a Montauk train on the Central Branch on one of our Babylon Branch trips.
